National survey of women's views and experience of maternity care 2006
Summary
As maternity services change over time it is critical to document the views of women with recent experience of maternity care. A national survey of recent mothers was carried out by the Audit Commission in 1995 as part of a review of maternity services. The report was published as 'First Class Delivery'. By 2006 it was timely to undertake another national survey, again with a random sample of women who had recently given birth selected by the Office for National Statistics. This national survey used many of the same questions as were used earlier and provided a benchmark of more recent practice and experience and a point of comparison to measure change over time in women's experience of maternity care. A report 'Recorded Delivery' was published in 2007. Further analyses were the basis of papers on antenatal screening, caesarean section, breastfeeding and ethnic minority women's worries and experience of maternity care.
