The role of fathers in the development of the healthy child using the MCS
Objectives
There is good evidence to suggest that fathers play a key role in the health, development and wellbeing of their partners and their children. The objective of this project is to investigate paternal wellbeing and the role of fathers and parenting in the development of the healthy child using two large population-based UK cohort studies.
Methods
Secondary analysis of the Millennium Cohort Study. This study will investigate both paternal wellbeing per se and the role of fathers and parenting in the development of the health child. The paternal outcomes to be considered are general health, symptoms of 'depression', maternal and paternal parenting involvement and indicators of positive parent-child relationship. The child outcomes to be considered are health, cognitive development and education.
