NPEU to host midwifery student internship as part of NIHR Undergraduate Internship Programme

Published on Monday, 13 May 2024 Tweet

Alessandra Morelli, UKMidSS Research Midwife, has been awarded funding in the first round of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Undergraduate Internship Programme which will support the hosting of a student midwife intern in NPEU later this year. The funding provided by the new scheme, which is designed to engage and attract students from underrepresented professions to consider a career in research, will enable a student midwife to undertake a paid internship for two weeks with the UK Midwifery Study System (UKMidSS) team.

Under the supervision of Alessandra and Associate Professor Rachel Rowe, the intern will learn about the research conducted using UKMidSS, and using a wide range of methodologies across the NPEU; find out about different career pathways and opportunities for midwives in research; and get hands-on experience with the generation, interpretation and dissemination of research findings.

Applications for the internship are open now, with details available here, and a closing date of 24th May.
